Certain features of your window recesses and the type of windows you have might create some challenges. To ensure the best fit, a qualified surveyor will consider all factors, such as the direction your windows open (inward or outward) and how much your window handles protrude from the frame.
Your plantation shutters can be installed in three ways
Inside recess
This is the most common installation method. The shutter frame sits inside the wall’s hollow, forming a frame border. Plantation shutters are then placed within this frame, allowing the panels to open. Keep in mind that the panels won’t fold back completely flat against the wall. However, once you have window shutters installed, you’ll rarely need to open the panels fully. You can easily adjust the louvres to create the perfect ambience.
Edge recess
When plantation shutters are installed at the edge of a window recess, they align seamlessly with the room-facing wall, creating a clean look. This method might obscure your window sill but allows the shutters to open fully against the walls, as long as there are no obstructions. Frame options, like a Z frame, can add an attractive architrave around the window for extra visual appeal.
Outside recess
If your window is flush with the wall or the recess isn’t deep enough for a shutter frame, plantation shutters are installed outside the recess. This method keeps a stylish look, and the shutters still fold back neatly. Outside recess fits are usually needed for windows that open inwards.
Shutter panels
The arrangement of your windows and the placement of the transom bar determine how many shutter panels you’ll need. Plantation shutters look great both inside and out, and the panels can align with your window frames for a uniform look.
